The GODOWN ARTS CENTRE
One of the first cultural centres to be established on the African continent in the new millennium, the GoDown Arts Centre provides facilities for many different forms of art and culture. With exhibition spaces, galleries, artist studios, office space and rehearsal rooms, the GoDown is a hub of innovation and creativity. As a multidisciplinary centre for art and culture, the GoDown focuses on providing local initiatives with opportunities to realise projects, while it also seeks to strengthen cooperation with regional and international networks fostering its mission of inspiring and enriching lives through arts, culture, and creativity.
Through programs including CopyRightX, Creative Economy, Manjano, and the Nai Ni Who community festival, the GoDown Arts Centre has impacted individual artists and influenced communities since its inception.
The GoDown is now transitioning into its critical second phase in which expansion is expected to give new stimulus to its immediate and wider community by encouraging investment in the economy, trade, and tourist infrastructure. The development of the new GoDown Arts Centre is underway, with extensive community-oriented plans for a state-of-the-art 25,000 sq meter facility whose construction kicks off in 2022.
